Meet the tutor - Louise Bell

Meet Louise Bell, our Hairdressing Tutor at The Sheffield College. Louise brings over two decades of hands-on industry experience, from working as a senior stylist in top salons to styling bridal parties in stunning venues across the country.
Growing up in and around her nan’s salon, she was inspired from a young age by the power of making people feel their best. This interest grew into a passion, shaping the fulfilling career she enjoys today.
Alongside her teaching, Louise runs her own hair and beauty business, a role that keeps her in touch with the fast-moving and developing industry. She believes in practicing what she teaches, and her Apprentices benefit from her up-to-date knowledge of the latest trends, techniques and client expectations.
“It’s important to stay active in the industry,” Louise says. “That way I can bring real-world experience straight into the classroom.”
Louise sees the benefits of the Apprenticeship route because she started her career that way. “I left school in 2006 and did my Apprenticeships with The Sheffield College. It gave me the foundation and confidence to build a successful career. Now, I get to help others do the same.”
She encourages any considering an Apprenticeship to go for it. “You get the best of both worlds, earning while learning, building real-world experience and getting support from industry professionals who’ve walked the path before you.”
With a career spanning from salon floors, business ownership, fashion shows, and education, Louise brings an invaluable breadth of insight to her teaching. “I’ve been there, I know what it’s like to work under pressure, to build a client base, and to run a business. I can help learners understand what employers expect, and how to stand out in a busy industry.”
At The Sheffield College, we have industry-standard salon facilities, experienced tutors and strong connections with local employers, giving our Apprentices the tools and knowledge to succeed.
