Meet the tutor - Lauren Partridge

Meet Lauren, our Work-Based Learning Tutor for Pharmacy, at Apprenticeships+, the home of Apprenticeships at The Sheffield College. 

With nine years of experience in hospital pharmacy, Lauren’s got tons of practical knowledge that she can share with you.  

Lauren’s pharmacy journey started on a busy hospital ward, where she worked as a Medicines Optimisation Technician. Throughout her career, she’s done everything from working in the dispensary and stores to getting hands-on in the aseptics unit, where medicines are prepared.  

When it comes to teaching, Lauren makes things exciting. She’s a fan of using games and visuals in lessons (you might even meet “Ashleigh the Pink Cow” in class!). Lauren also enjoys sharing her personal experiences, making lessons feel real and easy to understand. 

"We offer a mix of online and onsite lessons, so you get hands-on experience as well as theory," Lauren says. You’ll even get to go on an educational visit to B Braun, a leading medical company, in your second year. Lauren highlights that the college also provides excellent support, helping you through both the coursework and any challenges you might face. 

If you’re wondering why you should consider a career in Pharmacy, Lauren states: 

"Being a Pharmacy Technician is a respected career – you’ll be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council, which means your skills are in high demand across the UK." 

Lauren also points out that there are loads of options in pharmacy, so you can find the perfect role that suits you. “There’s such variety. You could work in a GP practice, on a hospital ward, in a community pharmacy, or even in clinical trials – the possibilities are endless.” 

Lauren encourages students to be open to new learning experiences. “The best part of an Apprenticeship is that you get to earn while you learn. By the time you finish, you’ll have a wide range of skills that you can use in any area of pharmacy.”
