Meet the tutor - Kirsty Fielding
Published: 8th of November 2024
Meet Kirsty Fielding, our Work-Based Learning Tutor for Pharmacy, at Apprenticeships+, the home of Apprenticeships at The Sheffield College.
Kirsty started her career in a community pharmacy, where she completed a course as a counter assistant and earned her Level 2 Dispenser qualification. This job taught her a lot about medicines, dispensing skills, and how to work with different health professionals.
Wanting to learn more, she went on to work in a hospital pharmacy. She completed her Level 3 Pharmacy Technician course, gaining skills like mixing medicines and learning how drugs work in the body. After a few years in the hospital, Kirsty wanted to keep growing her skills, so she took a new course that allowed her to work in GP surgeries. She even learned how to check blood pressure and help with vaccines!
With all her experience, Kirsty decided to join The Sheffield College to teach the next generation of pharmacy technicians, through Apprenticeships.
“My goal is to share the knowledge and skills I've built up over the years with those who want to make a real difference in pharmacy,” Kirsty states.
Kirsty strongly encourages anyone considering an Apprenticeship to go for it!
“It’s a fantastic way to gain hands-on experience while earning. You’re fully supported by your workplace and the college every step of the way.”
She also highlights the college’s commitment to supporting Apprentices success, both in the classroom and on the job.
"We offer personalised support with regular reviews to set goals and discuss your progress.”
