Inaya Islam

Meet Inaya Islam, a Level 2 Hair Professional Apprentice at The Sheffield College. Recently, we caught up with Inaya to discuss her journey, experiences and future goals.

Inaya chose The Sheffield College, Apprenticeships+ based on an exceptional family recommendation and her mother’s successful career after studying here. She stated:

“My mum studied at The Sheffield College and has been incredibly successfully in her career, opening her own hair and beauty salon after completing a media make-up and Hairdressing qualification.”

Throughout Inaya’s first year of her Apprenticeship, she has gained a variety of skills including foiling hair, complex colour corrections and cutting and styling hair. Inaya also told us about some of her proud moments, expressing:

“My proudest achievement has been creating Hollywood waves, this is a complex skill! The college and my employer supported me and taught me how to successfully create this style.”

As well as learning the key skills needed for her qualification, Inaya has also expanded her expertise in make-up as she has a real passion for the beauty sector.

“I have a love for hair and beauty and I have been supported by my employer to learn more about make-up and now have gained the extra skills. I have successfully worked on weddings, specifically for people with different ethnic backgrounds and skin tones.”

Inaya has embraced numerous opportunities that have been provided by her employer, including competing in the student category for the bridal hair and make-up at the Professional Beauty Competition in Manchester. She has also worked at York Fashion Week and styled hair for the Miss England pageant. Inaya noted:

“These experiences have been invaluable and have helped me grow my confidence.”

Looking into the future, Inaya mentioned:

“I would like to complete a Level 3 hair and make-up qualification and one day I will take over the family business alongside my sisters.”

Inaya’s journey shows her dedication and passion for hair and beauty and we can’t wait to watch her grow into a successful business owner in the hair and beauty sector.
