After completing his Gas Engineering qualification at The Sheffield College, Rayhan is now working as a qualified Domestic Gas Engineer with Commercial Maintenance Services Ltd, carrying out boiler servicing, working on gas appliances and completing landlord safety checks.
For Rayhan, choosing The Sheffield College came down to its strong reputation.
"I chose The Sheffield College because of its good reviews."
During his time at college, Rayhan developed not only the technical knowledge needed for the industry, but also the perseverance and patience required to succeed in a demanding profession.
One of the highlights of his course was learning in the college's industry-standard gas training bays, where he gained hands-on experience working on boilers and understanding how key components and safety shut-off devices operate.
"The gas training bays helped me understand how different components worked inside a boiler, as well as the importance of the safety devices that keep people safe."
Rayhan also credits the support of his tutor, Nico, for helping him build his confidence throughout the course.
"Nico was very helpful and explained everything clearly. If I was ever stuck, he would explain things in a different way until I understood. He made me feel like no question was a silly question to ask."
Rayhan's dedication has not gone unnoticed. Since transferring to Commercial Maintenance Services Ltd, he has become a highly valued member of the team. He is due to complete his qualification with a distinction and has earned the trust of his employer to work independently, travelling to customers in his own company van.
Commercial Maintenance Services Ltd has also praised the training Rayhan has received through The Sheffield College, highlighting the positive impact it has had on his development and performance in the workplace.
His training has prepared him well for life in the industry, giving him a strong understanding of gas safety and the importance of annual inspections.
Now fully qualified, Rayhan is already looking ahead to the next stage of his career.
"I am aiming to get my Commercial Gas qualification. Completing my Domestic Gas qualification has given me the opportunity to progress even further."
Looking back on his journey, Rayhan says his biggest achievement is completing the course, especially after overcoming challenges along the way.
"There were times when I felt like giving up because it wasn't easy. However, I stayed disciplined and kept thinking about my end goal."
Rayhan's story is a great example of how determination, practical training and the right support from both The Sheffield College and Commercial Maintenance Services Ltd can help learners build a successful career in the gas industry.
