Kerry Birch
Published: 3rd October 2024
We recently caught up with Kerry Birch, a University of Sheffield Apprentice who is currently completing her Level 3 Business Administration qualification. Kerry shared her thoughts on her experience so far and the skills she’s developed.
Kerry chose to pursue her Apprenticeship with The Sheffield College as it was directly linked to the place she wanted to work. Being local to Sheffield, it was the perfect choice for her.
When discussing the skills she has gained during her Apprenticeship, Kerry highlighted the importance of mastering the platforms essential to her role. This knowledge has been instrumental in her daily tasks, helping her to perform effectively in her job.
Kerry also praised the support she’s received from her Training Assessment Facilitator (TAF) and Work-based Learning Assessor (WBA):
“They’re excellent, very knowledgeable, supportive and patient. Their guidance has been invaluable in helping me develop the skills I need.”
Kerry’s employer has also played an important role in her development:
“My employer is fantastic. They’ve provided extensive training, regularly check in on my workload and are very supportive of the college side of my Apprenticeship. They even allow me time for off-the-job training and to explore experiences outside my department.”
In addition to the support from her employer and TAF/WBA, Kerry has found the facilities at The Sheffield College to be great:
“The college is very modern and accessible, which has made my learning experience even better.”
Looking ahead, Kerry has a clear goal:
“I would like to become a full-time employee at the University. The Apprenticeship has given me the relevant 'on the job' experience and specific skills I needed to be considered for job roles there.”
Kerry’s journey is an example of how an Apprenticeship can provide the practical experience and skills necessary to take the next step in your career. We’re excited to see where her path leads next!
