When asked why she chose The Sheffield College, Jayne said:
“The Sheffield College has a good reputation across the city.”
Throughout her Apprenticeship, Jayne developed a range of important skills that have helped her grow in her role.
"I’ve learned how to really listen, not to judge, and to be patient. Teamwork has been key too, understanding the strengths and weaknesses of different staff members has been really valuable."
Jayne also spoke highly of the support she received from her tutor, Christine.
“Christine has been amazing. She explains everything clearly and gives guidance when needed, with her support, my confidence has really grown.”
Her employer has also played a big part in her development.
"My employers are very supportive. They want every staff member to be the best they can be. They’ve taught me how to conduct a meeting in a professional environment, which has been a great experience."
Jayne has also found studying at college beneficial.
"I’ve enjoyed coming into college sometimes because it gives me a quiet space to focus on my work without distractions."
Now, Jayne is putting everything she’s learned into practice as she steps into a new role.
"At the moment, I’m learning my new role as a Day Service Manager."
Looking back, she feels that her Apprenticeship has prepared her well for the future.
"The Apprenticeship has helped me develop a deeper understanding of my field and has given me more empathy for people from different backgrounds."
Jayne’s dedication and hard work have not gone unnoticed. She was recently named the 2025 Winner of the Inspirational Support & Leadership for Supported Living & Day Services Award at the Sheffield Cares Excellence Awards. This incredible achievement recognises her commitment to providing outstanding support and leadership in the care sector.
