We recently spent some time speaking with Jack, who has recently completed his Level 3 Pharmacy Technician Apprenticeship at Rotherham Hospital. His journey highlights the benefits of learning through hands-on experience in a healthcare setting.
When asked why he chose an Apprenticeship, Jack explained, "I wanted to retrain in a different field, and an Apprenticeship allowed me to gain first-hand experience while learning. Earning while I learned was also a bonus!"
During his Apprenticeship, Jack discovered the importance of effective communication.
“This course has shown me how essential clear communication is in a workplace, especially in health services. Sharing information concisely can make a big difference to workflow.”
Jack also appreciated the support from his tutors.
“Our tutors are always available and incredibly supportive. It’s hard to pinpoint one thing – it’s their personalities and willingness to help that make a difference,” he shared.
Jack’s employer played a key role in his learning experience.
“I feel very valued by my employer. They’ve involved me in various events, like an induction for new starters, where I could share my experiences. It’s great to feel part of the team.”
One of the facilities Jack found most useful during his Apprenticeship was the manufacturing and aseptic suite at Rotherham Hospital.
“Being able to work in this area has been so helpful, as many of my assignments are based on this experience.”
Looking ahead, Jack has been offered a full-time job at Rotherham Hospital.
“I’m excited to start my job next year and would like to complete the Level 4 Pharmacy Technician course to further my knowledge.”
Reflecting on his journey, Jack feels well-prepared for his next steps. "Gaining first-hand experience has been ideal for me, and I hope my workplace feels I’m ready for the role."
Jack’s story is a fantastic example of how an Apprenticeship can open doors to a rewarding career.
