Lily Graham
Lily Graham

Here's why Lily was nominated by her employer:

"Lily Graham began her PROUD Customer Service Level 2 Apprenticeship with The Sheffield College, choosing the apprenticeship route to build a meaningful, long-term career within Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. From day one, she demonstrated genuine passion for healthcare administration and a strong commitment to excellence.

Based at the Trust’s Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Lily quickly stood out in a busy clinical environment. Managing patient enquiries, resolving conflict and supporting university dental students with their clinics, she developed confidence and professionalism at pace. Within just a few months, she secured a permanent position while still completing her apprenticeship - an exceptional achievement that clearly sets her apart and evidences the immediate impact of her contribution.

Lily has shown remarkable personal and professional growth. She has strengthened her communication, organisation and problem-solving skills, alongside clear progress in English, maths and digital competence. She produces high-quality written correspondence, uses administrative systems accurately and efficiently, and manages competing priorities within a demanding NHS setting. She consistently applies classroom learning directly into practice, exceeding expectations for her level.

Her manager, Kate Birt, states: “Lily has been an asset to our team. She quickly developed her skills and has consistently demonstrated professionalism and reliability. She supports colleagues confidently and takes feedback on board to continuously improve.”

Lily’s impact extends beyond her individual role. She has increased team capacity during busy periods, supported newly recruited apprentices and contributed fresh ideas that enhance efficiency and patient experience. Her calm, respectful manner reassures patients and strengthens the culture of professionalism within the department. She approaches challenges creatively, using empathy and structured problem-solving to resolve issues effectively.

Balancing a substantive NHS role alongside her qualification required resilience, determination and excellent time management. Lily has overcome the pressures of a fast-paced healthcare environment with a consistently positive, solution-focused attitude. Her perseverance and maturity demonstrate exceptional commitment to her development.

Crucially, Lily is motivating to her peers, too. She supports new starters, shares learning openly and leads by example, showing what dedication to an apprenticeship can achieve. As she reflects: “This position has provided me with the knowledge and skills to support a career in the NHS. In the future, I hope to progress within the NHS, take on more responsibilities and continue to develop my skills in healthcare administration.”

Since using her newly acquired skills to secure a permanent role, Lily is actively exploring further progression within NHS administration. Her rapid progression already shows extraordinary growth and is indicative of a bright future in the NHS. From a new apprentice building confidence to a valued team member trusted with responsibility in a complex clinical setting, Lily is on route to achieve her aspirations and step up into a senior role.

Lily should win the Outstanding Achievement award because her impressive journey, measurable impact and unwavering commitment to excellence truly distinguish her. She embodies resilience, innovation and professionalism, and represents the very best of what you can achieve through apprenticeships."
