Celia Kelly
FREDIE+ Champion Award
Here's why Celia was nominated:
"Celia works closely with students on the King’s Trust programme and is currently developing her own expertise through the Level 5 Learning and Skills Teacher Apprenticeship. Even while balancing her own professional development, she consistently places the needs of her learners at the heart of everything she does.
Many of the students Celia supports have complex needs and face significant personal challenges. Yet regardless of the barriers they bring with them, Celia meets each learner with patience, determination, and an unshakeable belief in their potential. She encourages them to engage, to experience new tasks and activities, and to gain valuable exposure to real work environments. Her support doesn’t just help them complete a course—it helps them grow in confidence, purpose, and belonging.
Celia is fair, inclusive, and deeply committed to equality. She creates a learning environment where every voice is valued, every background is respected, and every individual is given the chance to succeed. Her communication with her groups is thoughtful and adaptive, ensuring that everyone feels heard and understood. She actively draws on the ideas, experiences, and perspectives of her learners, creating a truly inclusive and empowering learning space.
At the core of Celia’s practice is respect. She approaches each student with empathy and understanding, always considering their unique circumstances and often putting their needs before her own. Her ability to connect with individuals from all walks of life is a testament to her compassion and professionalism.
Beyond the classroom, Celia works with a range of stakeholders across the community, building strong, meaningful relationships that open doors for her students. These connections allow learners to experience a wide range of engagement opportunities and develop a real sense of belonging—something that can be transformational for young people who may have struggled to find their place.
Throughout her role, Celia embodies the principles of FREDIE—Fairness, Respect, Equality, Diversity, Inclusion, and Engagement. She doesn’t simply promote these values; she brings them to life in every interaction, every decision, and every learning opportunity she creates.
Celia, your work changes lives. Your commitment to your students, your passion for inclusive education, and your dedication to personal and professional growth make you an exceptional educator and an invaluable asset to the King’s Trust programme."
